MAXPREPS BASKETBALL TOUR OF CHAMPIONS CELEBRATES MOUNTAIN BROOK HIGH SCHOOL

The 13th Annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard passed through Alabama on Tuesday, May 15 to honor Mountain Brook (Birmingham, Ala.) High School and its boys basketball team for winning a state championship and earning a high national ranking. Having upended McGill-Toolen 73-49 in the AHSAA Class 7A state championship contest, the 34-4 Spartans claimed Mountain Brook's second straight boys state basketball title, their fourth overall, earned the No. 31 ranking in MaxPreps' National Rankings and played their way into the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 Writers' Poll at No. 24! MaxPreps and the Alabama Army National Guard joined forces in celebrating Mountain Brook boys basketball at a special lunch assembly. As the Spartans assembled in the cafeteria, and received their championship t-shirts, MaxPreps representative Jon Van Riper opened the celebration by congratulating the Spartans on their championship season. Van Riper then talked about MaxPreps, the history of the Tour of Champions and the prestige of the Army National Guard national ranking trophy. Van Riper pointed out that the Spartans are one of only ten boys basketball programs nationally to receive the highly acclaimed Army National Guard national ranking trophy before introducing Sergeant Joshua Hamilton of the Alabama Army National Guard. After praising the Spartans for their outstanding basketball season, SGT Hamilton presented the Army National Guard national ranking trophy to head coach Bucky McMillan and the Spartans. Following the trophy presentation, Mountain Brook basketball players came front and center for team pictures. MaxPreps interviewed McMillan, seniors Britton Johnson, Sean Elmore and William Lineberry, as well as junior Trendon Watford, who spoke of Mountain Brook's chemistry and the effect it had on their successful basketball season. McMillan graduates four seniors, who leave behind a legacy of winning. The Spartans have been to five of the last six Alabama Class 7A state title games, capturing the championship four times during that stretch. McMillan and the Spartans hope to continue their success for years to come. But, for now, congratulations to the Mountain Brook boys basketball team on its state championship season!
