Both the JV and Varsity boys soccer teams opened their season on the road Monday night at John Carroll Catholic High School.

The JV Boys rolled over the Cavaliers 9-1. John Norris and Will Earnhardt each had a brace with Daniel Gaynor and Alex Martinez also finding the net for the Spartans.

The Varsity beat the #6 ranked Cavaliers 3-1 in the final game of the night. Patrick "Sniper" Neil opened things up in the 13th minute when he took a nice pass from Pirmin Blattmann and slotted it home (1-0). Blattmann then doubled the lead with a long free kick that maneuvered its way past the keeper in the 25th minute (2-0). The Cavs scored their lone goal less than one minute later on a counter attack that Spartan goalie Jack Bragg got a hand on but couldn't keep out of the net (2-1). The second half was filled with scrappy play in the midfield until the 59th minute when a free kick was mishandled by the John Carroll keeper. Andrew Thompson was on the spot and opened his MB account with his first varsity goal (3-1).

Congratulations to our 2019 JV and Varsity Boys Soccer teams for season opening wins.

On the schedule for the rest of the week - a trip to Prattville on Tuesday, Feb. 12th if the weather will cooperate. The varsity squad will be traveling to Foley this weekend to play in the Southern Shootout.
