MB #8 IN ASWA FIRST RANKINGS OF THE SEASON

The Spartans are off to a solid start with a record of 11-5 through March 13 and a ranking of #8 in the Alabama Sports Writers Association's first poll of the 2019 season. With just a few more timely hits the Spartan's record could be significantly better. Those opportunities will become increasingly more important as area play will begin in April. Over the next few weeks, the Spartans will take the field vs. #3 Hoover (March 19th), Spain Park - a team just outside the top 10 (April 2nd, 4th), #4 Vestavia Hills (April 9th, 11th), and #7 Hewitt-Trussville (April 16th, 18th). The Spartans have already faced #10 Oak Mountain and won. If you're keeping track, that the #4, #7, and #8 ranked teams in 7A all in the same area. Add Spain Park which fell just outside of the top ten list and you have an incredibly competitive area - arguably the most difficult baseball area of which to be a part. Emerging from this area to make the post season will be difficult for any team but the Spartans are working toward making that a reality. Mountain Brook won the area championship last year in a one game playoff vs. Oak Mountain in dramatic fashion with a walk-off homerun by Clay Stearns.
