Volleyball Take Rocky Top Classic Championship

The Spartan varsity volleyball team traveled to Sevierville, Tennessee this past weekend to compete in the Rocky Top Classic. The tournament hosted 64 teams from all over the southeast and was played on Friday and Saturday.

The Spartans began pool play Friday afternoon with matches against Daniel Boone(TN) and Lebanon(TN) high school sweeping both teams 2-0. Mountain Brook completed pool play Saturday morning just like they began on Friday with 2-0 sweeps of their final pool play opponents - Coffee County Central(TN) and East Bullitt (Louisville, KY). Finishing undefeated and first in their pool division, the Spartans advanced to the Gold Bracket with a shot at the tournament championship.

On the way to the medal rounds of the tournament Mountain Brook defeated Bryant Station (Lexington, KY) 2-0 and South Warren (Bowling Green, KY) 2-1. Advancing to the Quarter Finals against Dickens County (TN) the Spartans dropped only their second set (and last) of the tournament with a 2-1 victory. In the Semi Finals the team advanced to the Finals with a 2-0 sweep of Lafayette (Lexington, KY). The Mountain Brook Spartans claimed the Rocky Top Classic Championship in another 2-0 sweep against Station Camp (Galatin, TN). The Spartans finished the tournament with a 9-0 match record winning 18 of 20 sets.
