Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans had trouble keeping up with Hoover Bucs (Var) in a 15-0 loss on Tuesday at Hoover High School.
Hoover Bucs (Var) got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Avery Chaney homered to center field, scoring two runs, Haley Westhoven hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Cheyenne Conner singled, scoring one run.
Hoover Bucs (Var) extended their early lead with five runs in the bottom of the second thanks to RBI singles by Chaney, Lindsey Westhoven, Mollie Hanson, Hadley Williams, and Conner.
Hoover Bucs (Var) scored six runs on four hits in the bottom of the third inning. Westhoven drew a walk, scoring one run, Hanson hit a grand slam to right field, and Avi Davis singled, scoring one run.
Emma Durr took the loss for Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans. The starting pitcher went two innings, allowing 12 runs (11 earned) on 10 hits, striking out none and walking five. Westhoven opened the game for Hoover Bucs (Var). The left-handed pitcher surrendered two hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out none and walking one.

Westhoven, Chaney, and Conner each collected multiple hits for Hoover Bucs (Var). Regan Lawson led Hoover Bucs (Var) with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up eight walks for the game. Hoover Bucs (Var) were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Chaney made the most plays with three.
