Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans easily dispatched Woodlawn Varsity Colonels on Saturday, 15-0.

Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Woodlawn Varsity Colonels committed an error, Edith Kaplan doubled down the left field line, Marianna Murray singled to center field, Anne Turner Goldman singled down the left field line, Liles Walker walked, and Anna Kate Shea singled down the right field line, each scoring one run.

Five more Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans runs crossed the plate in the second inning to extend the lead to 11-0. Kaplan doubled, scoring two runs, Amelia Davis singled, scoring one run, and Walker hit an inside the park home run, scoring two runs.

A double by Kaplan, and a ground out by Murray helped Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans extend their early lead in the third.

Kaplan earned the win for Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans. The starter surrendered zero hits and zero runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking two. #13 stepped in the circle first for Woodlawn Varsity Colonels. The starter allowed 12 hits and 15 runs over three and one-third innings, striking out two and walking seven. Charlotte Kearse collected the save. Molly Shea threw one and one-third innings of shutout ball for Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans in relief. The reliever gave up zero hits, striking out three and walking one.

Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans tallied 12 hits in the game. Kaplan provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans with five runs batted in. The pitcher went 3-for-3 on the day. Shea collected two hits for Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans in two at bats. Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans had a strong eye at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game. Walker, Claire Robinett, and Ellen Gresham led the team with two bases on balls each. Shea, Shea, Walker, and Gresham each stole multiple bases for Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans. Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans stole 13 bases in the game. Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans didn't commit a single error in the field. Goldman had the most chances in the field with 10.

Spartans will advance to the Regional Tournament on May 7-8 in Albertville, AL.
