Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans couldn't keep up with Vestavia Hills Rebels Varsity and fell 18-7 on Thursday at Mountain Brook High School.

Vestavia Hills Rebels Varsity got on the board in the top of the first inning after Addison Ferrell doubled, scoring one run, Mackenzie Wedell induced Ava Scott Gay to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, Hollon Gay singled, scoring one run, Ryanne Head singled, scoring two runs, Kate Flanagan doubled, scoring two runs, and an error scored one run.

Vestavia Hills Rebels Varsity added one run in the second. Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans committed an error, making the score 9-0.

Vestavia Hills Rebels Varsity scored one run in the top of the third on a solo home run to left field by Flanagan.

Vestavia Hills Rebels Varsity scored six runs on three hits in the top of the fifth inning. Gay doubled, scoring two runs, Ella Wright doubled, scoring one run, and Lilly Ferguson homered to center field, scoring three runs.

Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. Reagan Rape tripled, scoring three runs, Molly Shea singled, scoring one run, and Anne Turner Goldman singled, scoring one run.

Flanagan earned the win for Vestavia Hills Rebels Varsity. The starter allowed zero hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out four and walking none. Wedell took the loss for Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans. The pitcher went two and one-third innings, surrendering 10 runs (two earned) on seven hits, striking out none and walking two.

Reagan Rape went 2-for-3 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in.

Vestavia Hills Rebels Varsity amassed 12 hits in the game. Flanagan led Vestavia Hills Rebels Varsity with three hits in four at bats from the leadoff position. Gay went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with four runs batted in.
