Davis Steps Down As Boys Basketball Head Coach

Tyler Davis has been a fabric of Mountain Brook basketball for 18 years.

Mountain Brook High School boys basketball head coach, Tyler Davis, met with the players in his program on Thursday afternoon and informed them that he has decided to step down from his position as head coach.

"I made this decision after prayer and talking with my family about what is the best thing to do moving forward," Davis said. "As I move in a new direction, I have nothing but the best wishes for this program and look forward to cheering on the Spartans from the stands."

Davis was the varsity head coach for six seasons (2020-2026) and served as the Spartans' JV head coach and varsity assistant from 2008-2020. As head coach, he amassed 159 victories and just 41 losses. The Spartans ascended to the top of 6A in 2021 winning the state championship during his first season. Coach Davis made the 'Final Four' three out of six seasons while later finishing as 6A runner up in 2023 and 2024. Mountain Brook made it to the regional tournament each season under his leadership.

"We had lots of success and I am forever grateful to be a part of a program that has risen to be nationally recognized," Davis added. "However it was the people along the way who made this experience special. It was such a privilege to coach so many great young men, especially having the opportunity to coach my two boys and have at least one of them on the team each season."

Ty Davis graduated in 2024 and played four years of varsity ball before signing with Creighton. He overlapped with Trey for two seasons and Trey just completed his senior campaign and is headed to Berry College in the fall. Tyler said he looks forward to watching his daughter, Avery, compete in girls basketball in her last two years of high school while also having the opportunity to travel with his wife Ashley to watch their sons play in college. While Davis is stepping down as head coach, he will remain on campus as a teacher.

"I am grateful for all of Tyler's contributions and for being a fabric of the boys basketball program for nearly two decades," MBHS Athletic Director, Andy Urban said. "We are excited to take what he has helped build and continue the success and first-class experience for our boys basketball student athletes in the future."
