Cullman Varsity scored seven runs in the second inning, which helped them defeat Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans 12-2 on Friday at Bill Noble Park.

Cullman Varsity opened the scoring in the first after Sam Johnson hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.

Cullman Varsity scored seven runs on four hits in the bottom of the second inning. Haylee Little drew a walk, scoring one run, Allie Johnson grounded out, scoring one run, Abby Maples singled, scoring one run, Hattie Graham singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, and Reese Hopper tripled, scoring two runs.

A double by Maples, a ground out by Johnson, and a single by Hopper helped Cullman Varsity extend their early lead in the third.

Kynlei Storey earned the win for Cullman Varsity. The starting pitcher surrendered seven hits and two runs (one earned) over three and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking one. Mackenzie Wedell took the loss for Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans. The hurler went one inning, giving up five runs on two hits, striking out none and walking three.

Marianna Murray and Reagan Rape each collected two hits for Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans. Anne Turner Goldman led Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans with one run batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-2 on the day. Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans turned one double play in the game.

Leadoff hitter Maples led Cullman Varsity with three hits in three at bats. Hopper, Maples, and Johnson each drove in three runs for Cullman Varsity. Graham collected two hits for Cullman Varsity in two at bats. Graham stole two bases. Cullman Varsity ran wild on the base paths, collecting five stolen bases for the game.
