Mountain Brook over Johnson Abernathy Gratz — Wright, Little, Davis lead Spartans at Spain Park Thanksgiving Classic
SPAIN PARK — Mountain Brook picked up a solid early-season victory Wednesday at the Spain Park Thanksgiving Classic, topping Johnson Abernathy Gratz behind balanced scoring and lockdown defense.
Sophomore guard Parker Wright led the Spartans with 18 points and 2 steals, attacking the lane and hitting timely jumpers. Braden Little added 12 points, while Trey Davis finished with 10 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds. Hill McCluney chipped in 10 points and 4 rebounds, providing valuable minutes and steady defense.
Mountain Brook's ball movement and interior pressure forced turnovers and opened looks for perimeter shooters. The Spartans closed the game at the free-throw line and protected a late lead to secure the win.
Coach Tyler Davis praised the start to the season: "It's been a good first month. We're building chemistry, and getting our football guys back in the fold in December will help. We host Pelham on Tuesday and Homewood on Friday — those games will tell us a lot about where we are."
