Mountain Brook Stymied by Sparkman

Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans had trouble keeping up with Sparkman Varsity Senators in a 20-2 loss on Friday at Wald Park.

A home run to center field by #7 put Sparkman Varsity Senators on the board in the top of the first.

Sparkman Varsity Senators added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after #7 walked, and Krimson Phillips walked, each scoring one run.

Sparkman Varsity Senators scored seven runs on four hits in the top of the third inning. Kara Burman homered to center field, scoring two runs, Taylor Gilreath doubled, scoring one run, Eden Parker singled, scoring one run, and Phillips homered to center field, scoring three runs.

Sparkman Varsity Senators scored nine runs on six hits in the top of the fourth inning. Parker was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, #7 hit a grand slam to right field, Burman doubled, scoring two runs, and Carly White singled, scoring two runs.

Marianna Murray hit a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the fourth for the Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans.

Mackenzie Wedell stepped in the circle first for Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans. The hurler surrendered three hits and six runs (three earned) over two innings, striking out two and walking five. Parker started in the circle for Sparkman Varsity Senators. The starting pitcher gave up two hits and two runs over four innings, striking out six and walking two.

Murray led Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans with one run batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-2 on the day. Murray and Reagan Rape each collected one hit for Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans. Rape stole two bases. Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans stole five bases in the game.

Sparkman Varsity Senators collected 12 hits in the game. #7 provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Sparkman Varsity Senators with six runs batted in. The outfielder went 2-for-2 on the day. Phillips, White, Burman, and #7 each collected two hits for Sparkman Varsity Senators. Gilreath paced Sparkman Varsity Senators with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game. Farrah Payton stole two bases. Sparkman Varsity Senators ran wild on the base paths, piling up six stolen bases for the game. Sparkman Varsity Senators were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Megan Wilbanks made the most plays with six.
