Saturday's game against Cleveland Blue Raiders was a heartbreaker for Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans, as they lost the lead late in a 7-6 defeat. The game was tied at six in the bottom of the fifth when Mackenzie Wedell induced Sofia Greene to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.

Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans got on the board in the top of the first inning after Molly Shea tripled to right field, Marianna Murray singled down the left field line, and Anne Turner Goldman grounded out, each scoring one run.

Cleveland Blue Raiders flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 5-3. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Lilly Mason that drove in two.

Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans took the lead in the top of the second. Reagan Rape hit an inside the park home run, scoring three runs, to give Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans the lead, 6-5.

Mason homered to left field, which helped Cleveland Blue Raiders tie the game at six in the bottom of the second.

Wedell pitched three innings in relief for Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans. The pitcher allowed three hits and one run while, striking out two and walking one. Rape led things off in the circle for Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans. The righty allowed three hits and five runs (four earned) over one-third of an inning, striking out none and walking one. Huntlee Dennison stepped in the circle first for Cleveland Blue Raiders. The starter allowed five hits and six runs (five earned) over two innings, striking out none and walking one.

Murray and Rape each collected two hits for Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans. Rape went 2-for-3 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans turned one double play in the game.

Cleveland Blue Raiders amassed 10 hits in the game. Mason provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Cleveland Blue Raiders with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-2 on the day. Allison Farnsworth went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Cleveland Blue Raiders in hits. Ava Brunson collected two hits for Cleveland Blue Raiders in three at bats.
