Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans Surge Past Huffman Varsity Vikings Thanks To Big First Inning

Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans scored 15 runs in the first inning, which helped them defeat Huffman Varsity Vikings 20-0 on Tuesday at Huffman High School.  Marianna Murray hit an inside the park home run, scoring two runs, Anne Turner Goldman singled, scoring one run, Addison Presley drew a walk, scoring one run, Ellen Gresham drew a walk, scoring one run, Molly Shea singled, scoring two runs, Murray grounded out, scoring one run, Mary B. Arendall singled, scoring two runs, a passed ball scored one run, Addison Webb doubled, scoring one run, and an error scored one run.

Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Gresham singled to center field, Murray singled down the left field line, Amelia Davis walked, Goldman was struck by a pitch, and Liles Walker walked, each scoring one run.

Mackenzie Wedell earned the win for Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans. The right-handed pitcher surrendered zero hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out five and walking one. #4 opened the game for Huffman Varsity Vikings. The starting pitcher gave up 13 hits and 20 runs (13 earned) over three innings, striking out two and walking seven. Shea threw one inning of no-run ball for Mountain Brook Varsity Spartans in relief. The righty surrendered zero hits, striking out two and walking none.
